2020 – Withdrawal of US troops from Germany
More than just an insignificant historical event!
'We're reducing the force because they're not paying their bills'
said Donald Trump, but the Pentagon insists the move is about long-term strategy.....
The US Army was part of the anti-Hitler coalition that liberated all of Europe, and especially Germany, from National Socialism in 1945. In this respect, the Germans people owe a great deal to the Americans, and the bond of German-American friendship grew steadily over the past 75 years.
In 2020 – 30 years after the end of the Cold War – the announcement made by the American President sounds like a threat and speaks volumes not only where the state of the American-German relationship is concerned, but it also highlights the weakness of NATO and that after only 4 years of the Trump Administration in office.
During the Second World War, the now world-famous photographer Tony Vaccaro came to Germany as a member of the 83rd Infantry Division of the US Army, which was part of the Allied Liberation Army. He not only carried a rifle but also a camera and with it he created the most expressive testimony against the cruelty of war and the need for reconciliation.
Elvis Presley was probably the most famous US soldier stationed in Germany (he was in Germany from October 1958 to February 1960).
